The Honest Considerations
Motorcycle touring requires a valid motorcycle licence (Class A or equivalent). It requires a level of physical fitness — not extreme, but 4–6 hours in the saddle over consecutive days is a real physical experience. And it requires a tolerance for being exposed to the elements: in the Yucatan, that means heat, occasional afternoon rain, and the insects that find you at lower speeds.
If you have never ridden a bike heavier than 600cc, the R 1300 GS will feel substantial at first. By day 2, most riders have adapted and are using the bike's capabilities comfortably. We do not recommend this experience for complete beginners, but competent riders on anything from a 650 twin upward will find the GS approachable.

If you ride and the itinerary appeals to you — Maya ruins, cenotes, jungle roads, and the Caribbean coast on a BMW R 1300 GS Adventure — you should be on the motorcycle. The experience is categorically different from any other way to travel through the Yucatan.
