BMW R 1300 GS Adventure: The Ultimate Mexico Touring Machine

There is a reason serious touring riders choose the BMW R 1300 GS. Here is why it is the definitive machine for exploring the Yucatan — and what it feels like to ride one through Maya country.

The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is not a compromise. It is the machine that defined the adventure touring category, now in its most refined form yet. For the Yucatan Peninsula — where you might ride 200 km of highway, then a cobblestone colonial town, then a dirt track to a remote cenote — there is no better tool for the job.

The Specs That Matter for Mexico Touring

The R 1300 GS puts 145 HP and 149 Nm of torque through its signature boxer twin — enough to make highway overtakes effortless and still deliver the low-end torque pull that makes slow-speed village navigation stress-free. The 30-litre fuel tank gives a real-world range of 450+ km, critical in a region where fuel stations can be sparse.

Suspension travel is 220mm front and rear in Adventure specification, which means the rough limestone roads south of Tulum and the occasional dirt track to a jungle cenote are handled with composure that smaller bikes simply cannot match. Semi-active Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) adapts in real time to surface changes.

Technology That Changes the Riding Experience

Comfort Over Long Days

Our 7-day Maya Rider itinerary averages 180 km per riding day — not enormous distance, but days that include multiple site visits, heat, and the mental engagement of unfamiliar roads. The GS's wind protection, seat height adjustability, and ergonomic triangle mean arriving at each destination ready for the afternoon, not exhausted by it.

The seat is the most important factor in long-distance comfort, and BMW got it right on the GS. The optional comfort seat raises the saddle 10mm and adds contouring that matters on day 5 and 6. All bikes in our fleet run the comfort seat as standard.

Our Fleet Specification

Every BMW R 1300 GS Adventure in the Mayan Adventures fleet is current-year specification, fully serviced before each departure, and equipped with: panniers and top case (45L total), Touratech crash protection, Oxford heated grips (supplementary), GPS holder, and emergency toolkit.

We provide full protective gear — helmet, jacket, gloves, and riding pants — for every rider. You bring your riding boots and licence; we handle the rest.
